The Stem Cell
On the physical and a deeper purpose in life
The beginning for all human bodies,
As well as most life forms we see.
Is when those two cells come together,
As they did to create you and me.
In those moments that follow conception,
As the stem cells develop and grow.
Each given a well-defined purpose,
In creating unique embryo.
Imagine them, freshly formed stem cells,
No inkling as to what they will be.
Some will find life as a kidney, a brain or to make an eye see.
The instructions from genes are awaited,
For the DNA to dictate.
The code for all bodily tissues,
That they rapidly replicate.
‘Though our presence is microscopic,
Our efforts all keep you alive.
Precise, unseen and essential.
We wish you to prosper and thrive.’
‘Whatever,’ people may mutter,
‘We’ve shopping, fashion, smart cars.’
That’s true, but why do you live here,
Instead of a desert on Mars?
Silly,
No, of course not.
All forms we can provide,
Though we understand what matters,
Is the spirit deep inside.
We stem cells offer bodies
Their basic earthly role.
Yet I have heard a whisper,
You work upon your soul.
Good grief, that is a challenge,
What guides and helps you along?
We gather from stem cells world over,
Something seems terribly wrong.
Our role ensures creation, as chromosomes fulfil.
What of your human purpose, directed, not freewill?
Reflect on the source of your guidance.
From comment I’ll refrain.
Please use this incarnation
Or we shall meet again.
