On the Evolution of Disease
Remember what was normal?
The magic of routine,
When settled days unfolded, no drama to be seen.
Then lock-down.
What a virus?
Unknown to brightest mind,
Nipped in behind defences.
Fraught lives now redefined.
The history books will always show
That dire diseases come, then go.
We may well ask; please don’t be vague,
Why did we not die out from plague?
Poor folk would live in dreadful fear,
Each time they saw a funeral bier.
Science now expounds the facts of nasty things dispersed by rats.
Dirty water, bugs and waste,
Let’s skip the details out of taste.
Today the plague is all but gone,
Replaced discretely, one by one
With syndromes, AIDS and umpteen flu’s.
Coronavirus still world news.
Life is never static, it evolves, though do we see?
Could ailments, epidemics,
Bring lessons that are free?”
Is health the natural option?
With a life of body ease
Or is there destined attraction
To succumb to grim disease?
Where a condition is inherent,
It’s a struggle to be sure.
With polluted air or water; risks from diet, when it’s poor;
No end of dire infections and yes CV19,
All hasten our departure from this vibrant earthly scene.
The mix of the parental, those early days and place.
Then minds crave gentle living, to savour days of grace.
Today, ‘Lifestyle diseases’,
Erupt, enhancing fears,
Where the care of mind and body is sadly in arrears.
The cancers, diabetes, heart disease and stroke,
Lives tortured by dementia.
Great angst they all evoke.
Do spot the hidden purpose of these plagues upon our lot.
Will they transform our earthly prospects
Or be dismissed and soon forgot?
It should prompt that age old question,
Do we humans have control?
Of life that is, this planet.
Does illness have a role?
The secret of well-being,
Is ensure you are at one,
With what this life surrounds you,
The past and things to come.
Beyond a poorly body or confused and troubled mind.
Let peace pervade the spirit,
Be free where once confined.
Each life has unique purpose.
When diseases take their toll,
Consider more than symptoms
To heal………Regain control.
While disease is our companion, its knowledge to impart.
See how it offers moments, to love with open heart.
Suffering brings lessons that enable us to pause,
To look beyond the symptoms and contemplate on cause.
Turn to the source of answers,
As fresh ailments will evolve.
Embrace cooperation and in humility approach
The creator of creation,
Let nothing else encroach.
