The Blackbird
I heard a Blackbird,
Glistening and strong,
Sing a mighty evening song.
Perched high on thorny hawthorn hedge,
Its liquid tones, those fluid notes
Did soften a once hardening heart.
Then, it paused,
Drew breath.
……I felt forlorn.
Then refreshed,
It sang once more,
Complex music
Yet no score.
My sadness left,
It set me free.
That little bird,
Whose effort great
Touched my spirit,
Raised my smile.
I pondered for a moment.
I hope it knows its daily song
Effects not just the blackbird throng.
It helps us humans, often fraught,
Its joyous effort now has taught
A thoughtful person, keen to find
Contentment and a peaceful mind.
