The Conman and the Pope
On Religious Priorities
A conman living in Rome,
Would pray, when not on the phone.
When fixing a deal with religious appeal,
Caught the Pope with a well secured loan.
The Cardinals reeled at the con,
Why had it taken this long,
For the Pope to reveal this incredible deal.
Of a mortgage gone terribly wrong.
The Pope was frightened and left
Lest the Vatican be repossessed.
The conman was neater,
He appealed to St Peter,
Who gave him a plan for the best.
“Take the contract,” he said, from his throne,
“Let the Cardinals no longer moan.
May the poor, dispossessed, maligned and obsessed,
Share in this lovely new home.”
